THT HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT
Players will develop evasive skating techniques
through superior edge control. Learning how to control their edges will
aid in acceleration, speed, balance, agility and quickness. These
techniques will allow players to evade the opposition resulting in better positioning defensively and more scoring chances offensively. They will be challenged to work on their skating ability outside of their comfort zone. Some of the high caliber techniques that will be broken down are stops and starts, pivots, crossovers, tight turns, Mohawk turns, quick starts, lateral movement and c-cuts, all forward and backward.
HIGH PERFORMANCE SKATING INTENSIVE
Our High Performance Skating Model is geared towards players of all ages and levels; beginners to professionals who want to improve their skating with the goal of skating at the elite level. Skating intensives will provide teaching, demonstration, feedback, and repetition to optimize technical skating ability. Forward and backward stride length, foot and hip rotation, angles of the ankle, knee, hip, chest and head will be analyzed and developed. The goal for every player is maximum power, acceleration, top end speed, balance and mobility.
HIGH PERFORMANCE SHOOTING
Shooting techniques will be broken down into progressive segments and then pieced together and repeated until unconscious, effortless dynamic skills are achieved. Proper execution of the wrist shot, snap shot, slap shot and backhand while stationary and at top speed, with accuracy, power and speed, will be the main focus areas of performance shooting.
PERFORMANCE STICKHANDLING AND DEKING
The ability to pass and receive the puck in a variety of ways and in different situations is critical for elite players. Getting the puck quickly under control on the forehand, backhand and off the skates creates more time and space allowing players to make better decisions and take advantage of the opposition. Stickhandling, fakes and dekes will also be developed both on and off the ice to reinforce proper technique, agility, speed and hand-eye coordination at top speed...
BATTLES, BODY CONTACT AND BODY CHECKING
Body contact is inevitable at any level of hockey. Players should attend a body contact clinic every year regardless of their level of play. At THT Hockey we teach players about the danger zones on the ice. Players learn to understand how to properly enter these areas and prevent potential injury. Athletes will be challenged to raise their compete level to increase the chances of successfully winning battles all over the ice. Development will include the art of proper body position in the defensive and offensive zones as well as ways to angle and gain the upper hand in the neutral zone. Some checking techniques players will learn are how to track rebounds, box out opponents, and different ways to separate the man from the puck.
